and MS sufferer Sally Hyder climbes Ben Nevis in an electric
wheelchair. |
Molten
Rock Equipment Ltd - Press Release 23/06/2011
On
the 23rd of June 2011, MS suffer Sally Hyder successfully
climbed Ben Nevis in a BOMA off road electric wheelchair supplied
by Molten Rock. A critical factor for Sally was that at no
point would she or the Boma be carried; this was a drive to
the top.
Thanks
go out to the extraordinary support team including mountain
guide Alan
Kimber, the submariners from the Royal Navy
and the astonishing firefighters. Without their energy and
enthusiasm the challenge would not have been possible.
Ben
Nevis is the highest mountain in the United Kingdom and not
something to be taken on lightly. The Boma 7 was certainly
put through its paces; to quote Alan Kimber "the only
way we could have been harder on the Boma is if we had thrown
rocks at it!"
Molten
Rock Equipment Ltd was founded in 2004 by engineer Chris Swift
(35). Chris is a Tetraplegic and has been a wheelchair user
following a neurological illness at the age of 19. Chris's
vision was for a wheelchair that would give him and other
wheelchair users the freedom to enjoy the great outdoors.
Designed,
engineered and manufactured entirely in the UK, Molten Rock's
BOMA wheelchairs are suitable for a wide range of users, from
those who have difficulty walking, to tetraplegics such as
Chris who may require a joystick control. Customers have been
emailing Molten Rock following the cold winter, raving about
how the wheelchair performed in even the deepest snow.
"It's
fantastic to be part of such a great team and we are proud
to be associated with Sally and her adventures. Hopefully
this will show more wheelchair users that the outdoors is
now truly accessible; whether it's the local park or the mountains
of Scotland!" - Chris Swift, Founder, Molten
Rock.
